Jimmy Lawrence
Adjunct Professor - Teacher - Sports and Exercise Scientist - Conservation Biologist
Jimmy was a former sponsored alpine ski racer with an NCAA Division I scholarship; he raced cross-country mountain bikes at the professional level and won trail running races around the world (including the Twin Lakes Marathon in Wanaka, New Zealand).
Jimmy has a bachelor's degree in sports science from Long Island University (Brooklyn Campus) and a master's degree in clinical exercise science from the University of Potsdam (Potsdam, Germany). Jimmy was a doctoral candidate and research assistant for over three years, researching how exercise improves depressive symptoms in older adults and people living with HIV. He also researched the impact of different exercise intensities on DNA damage and the group dynamics and performance of ultra-endurance athletes. His research has recently involved artificial intelligence and augmented reality in sports medicine and education. You can view his research here.
Jimmy also completed a second master's degree in wildlife conservation with a concentration in wildlife biology from Unity Environmental University. His research involved conducting surveys of montane birds within the Catskill High Peaks.
Besides starting Catskill Fitness, Jimmy also works as an adjunct professor of health and exercise science at Mercer County Community College, teaches physical education at Windham-Ashland-Jewett Central School, and coaches soccer and alpine ski racing.
